Wired's Gadget Lab blog is out with a (this is tongue-in-cheek, right?) piece, Five Useless Gadgets You Should Throw in the Trash Right Now. While we're usuallly quick to celebrate the inclusion of "printers" and related technologies (e.g. scanners and fax machines) in Top Five lists of any kind, this one is not so nice! Buying a printer is like buying a timeshare in a vacation home. It looks cheap until you figure out all the extra costs, and that you don't ever use it after the first year. Outside of an office or a photographer's studio, they're obsolete -- myriad online printing sites will take care of your photos, at a better quality and lower price than you'll get at home.
And btw, if you're going to follow the article's advice, at least recycle!
